St. John Hospital provides comprehensive inpatient and outpatient care for children birth to age 21 years. Our Pediatric medical staff, under the direction of Ali Rabbani, MD, (pictured at left) includes a complete network of experts in more than 40 pediatric subspecialists as well as more than 90 general pediatricians. That means if your child needs specialized care for any reason, at St. John Hospital, you will have access to a board-certified pediatric specialty physician on staff at St. John who will work with your childs Pediatrician to provide the highest level of care for your children.
Children with a wide variety of illnesses and injuries are also cared for in our 52-bed inpatient Pediatric unit. For children who will be staying with us for an extended period of time, Child Life coordinators, who are certified teachers, help kids keep up with their homework, enjoy play time and generally ease the stress and isolation that can result from a chronic illness and extended hospital stay. The Pediatric unit also has a playroom, library and a large collection of toys, video games and state-of-the-art computers for both structured and unstructured activities. We also provide the highest level of pediatric care in our Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) and Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU). Our renowned NICU, one of the first in the state, has been a leader in caring for babies who are ill and premature for more than 35 years. We are proud to be the regional referral center for Neonatal medicine, that means many hospitals in Southeast Michigan transfer their tiniest, most critically ill patients to us for care.
Most of our physicians and nurses are parents, too. And we know how important it is for you to be with your child — especially when they aren’t well. We encourage parents to stay with their children if they wish and provide sleeping accommodations for this purpose.
